Oak Grove is a non-sectarian Cemetery, founded in 1881, with its first burial taking place in April, 1882. Since that first burial, over 52,000 interments have taken place here.
The Cemetery spans over 90 acres of land, 60 of which is developed with the remainder available for future growth.
Originally, the Cemetery was under license from the city as a profit-making operation, but was re-chartered in January 1960 as a not-for-profit operation, under the supervision of The Board of Directors of Oak Grove Cemetery of Springfield, Inc.
