Few people realize the amount of time and work that is involved in the operation of a large Cemetery! Priority-wise, the day-to-day preparation for burials comes first, followed by maintenance of the grounds… which is a constant process. There is the laying out and digging of graves, mowing of lawns, removal of fall leaves, plowing of snow off the roads, and clearing the grave sites of winter burials. Until early 1960, much of the work was done by hand. Today, modern equipment is used to maintain the cemetery’s 90 acres, of which 60 is developed and 30 remains as woodland.
We also assist the families with purchasing of graves, finding the locations of loved ones already interred, or taking care of the family’s specific concerns or problems. Oak Grove’s dedicated staff is proud of the attention to our grounds and the high level of service provided to families.
